How the night-market practice works

Walk up to a food stall and start an order. The vendor responds in Mandarin with a follow-up, so you can practice both sides of a real exchange. Use spoken answers or on-screen choices, depending on the practice mode and your device.

  1. Open the free world in a browser on your phone or computer.
  2. Walk through the market and choose a stall.
  3. Order, listen to the vendor, and answer the next question.
  4. Tap signs and other market objects to see the Chinese, pinyin, and meaning.

What you can practice

The market includes Taiwanese food stalls such as stinky tofu, pepper buns, bubble tea, and shaved ice. Each interaction uses Taiwan-focused Mandarin. The market is also a place to notice everyday details: signs, packaging, storefronts, and objects that are easy to miss in a word list.

If you are learning the phrases first, see the essential Taiwan Mandarin phrases guide. For the app’s broader situation-based phrasebook and practice tools, see how Pocket Taiwan fits alongside other Chinese-learning apps.
